Life at Retail Architects

We are a focused team, headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina, working on mid-to-large furniture retailers across the United States.

Our customers operate at serious scale. They depend on Loft for day-to-day retail execution, and they stay with us for the long haul. That means we prioritize reliability, clear communication, and judgment over hype.

Like our customers, our engineers and project managers stay with us for the long haul. Retail Architects isn't a revolving door. We believe in hiring the best at what they do rather than filling the building with warm bodies. We strive to create a family-like environment where you are provided the highest possible level of autonomy to do what you do best. We don't micromanage or fret over time cards - we care that you are driving our customer's success and delivering the highest quality products and services in the industry.

We meet with clients regularly to review priorities and validate direction. Churn is exceptionally low because we treat their businesses as if they were our own. Engineering, services, and leadership work closely together—there is little room for silos or hand-waving.

We are the partner our customers trust and rely on.

Full Stack Developer

About the Role

You'll work across the full Loft platform — backend logic, data modeling, and the Vue-based frontend that retail associates use every day. Projects range from building new product features and third-party integrations to maintaining a reliable codebase that our customers depend on around the clock. We are looking for Full Stack Developers who are not only strong engineers, but also curious about the business behind the software.

What We're Looking For

  • Solid Python backend experience in a mature web application codebase
  • Vue.js proficiency, or strong SPA experience in React or Angular
  • Strong SQL database experience— schema design, query optimization, migrations
  • Linux fluency, including comfort working in a command-line-only environment
  • Good judgment about when to build, when to refactor, and when to leave things alone in a production system real businesses depend on as well when to question the customer's requirements.

Nice to have:

  • Exposure to retail, ERP, or point-of-sale domains
  • SQLAlchemy experience

What to Expect

  • Small team, direct communication
  • Occasional travel for customer implementations
  • Competitive compensation based on experience

Front-End Developer

About the Role

You'll own the frontend of Loft — a Vue-based SPA used by retail associates and back-office staff at furniture retailers across the country. You'll build and refine UI across a broad functional surface: point of sale, inventory, purchasing, customer service, etc.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong Vue.js experience — components, state management, routing
  • Solid JavaScript fundamentals; CSS you can actually debug
  • Familiarity with Material Design concepts
  • Comfort working within an established codebase and design patterns rather than starting from scratch
  • Enough backend awareness to work effectively with REST APIs
  • An eye for usability in business software — our users are store associates and retail operators, not consumers

Nice to have

  • Exposure to retail, ERP, or point-of-sale domains
  • Experience with data-heavy interfaces — grids, reporting views, multi-step workflows
  • Experience with Vuetify

What to Expect

  • Small team, direct communication
  • Occasional travel for customer implementations
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and location
  • Opportunities to improve workflows that users rely on every day

Project Manager / Operations Consultant

About the Role

You'll own the customer side of Loft implementations — coordinating with retailers from contract through go-live. That means managing timelines, keeping both sides aligned, facilitating configuration decisions, and making sure customers are prepared to run their business on Loft when the switch gets flipped. You'll work closely with our engineering team without needing to be an engineer yourself.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven project management experience — you've owned a project end-to-end and know what it takes to keep things on track when they start to slip
  • Strong communication skills with business stakeholders, including the ability to run meetings, document decisions, follow up clearly, and keep teams moving toward the goal
  • Enough technical comfort to understand what you're implementing and translate between customer business needs and our engineering team
  • A willingness and ability to become an expert not only in Loft implementations, but also in how customers use Loft to run their business
  • Retail, ERP, or enterprise software implementation experience is a significant plus
  • Strong organization and self-direction, since implementations span months and involve many moving pieces across two organizations

Nice to have

  • Background in retail operations or management
  • Experience with super-user training and high-level customer support
  • Familiarity with SQL or basic data concepts

What to Expect

  • A small team with direct communication
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, particularly during active implementations
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and location

Engineering Internship

About the Role

You'll work alongside our engineering team on real work contributing to internal tools, engineering support tasks, and product-adjacent projects that help our team work more effectively. You’ll gain exposure to how experienced engineers approach existing codebases, production systems, and day-to-day development work.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Some hands-on experience with Python, JavaScript, or both — coursework counts, personal projects are a plus
  • A willingness to read, understand, and work within existing code before writing new code
  • Curious and communicative, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions when you are stuck and keep work moving forward

Nice to have

  • Any exposure to SQL or relational databases
  • Vue.js, React, or other frontend framework experience
  • Linux/command-line comfort

What to Expect

  • Paid, part-time summer position
  • Fort Mill, SC — in-person
  • Mentorship from senior engineers on a small, hands-on team
